Registration
How do families register for the HSPT?
Apply to the high school, register for the sitting, then practice. There is no national family registration portal for every Catholic high school. HSPT Prep is not affiliated with Scholastic Testing Service (STS). We cite a registration URL only when a source publishes one.
The short answer
- Apply to the high school on that school’s admissions checklist. Many applications include a student essay — prompts vary, so ask that office for this cycle and see the Catholic high school application essay guide.
- Register for the HSPT where that school or diocese tells you to register.
- Practice the five sections before the sitting — start with the weekly 3-day trial quiz.

Everywhere else
Most families register through the high school admissions office, not a national STS form. Confirm the test location, fee, arrival time, and identification with that school. If a sitting is unpublished here, omit the day and call the school. Verified current-cycle days we have sourced — including STS Oakland, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Boston, Detroit, Wilmington, and Camden — live on HSPT test dates.
After you are on a school’s list, keep the calendar boring: what to bring on test day, and what if we miss the HSPT date if something goes wrong.
Frequently asked questions
Do we register for the HSPT before we apply to the high school?
Usually no. Apply to the high school first, then register for that school’s sitting. In dioceses with a live STS page — Oakland, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Boston, Detroit, Wilmington, and Camden — the sitting itself is registered on that STS page after the application is in motion.
Can we walk in on test day without registering?
Do not plan on it. Many local high schools do not accept walk-ins on the day of the test. Register before the published close date and confirm arrival details with the test center.
Is there a national HSPT registration site for every diocese?
No. Most families register through the high school’s admissions process. We only publish a shared registration URL when a source lists one. For Oakland, that source is STS Oakland registration. For Philadelphia, that source is STS Philadelphia registration. For Baltimore, that source is STS Baltimore registration. Live STS pages we also cite: Cincinnati, Boston, Detroit, Wilmington, and Camden. We do not invent portals or dates for other dioceses.
